    Question Buying a new Buddy

This is not something to take lightly. And really thinking with my heart.... I was thinking of one last dog.

I have had mostly rescues with the exception of Weimar my X bought me. I have had a rescue Weimar, Lab, Cur, etc. Current rescue is an Aussie.

I was thinking "one more time"... But with a new pup...

    Anyone with Collie experience?

I had a Collie. Great dog and very smart. She was 92lbs at her peak and not fat. Very protective of my kids when they were young, if one started crying, she would come get us. A lot of brushing to keep her hair under control. Absolutely loved that dog. Never needed a leash.

    Great dogs
Just be sure to have them checked by a Vet
I forget the actual term - but they show “positive” on some type of gene test
It makes them hyper sensitive to medication
You may know this already from your Aussie

I’m a sucker for pretty much every dog lol. Great position to be in choosing another one . Collies are super smart but a never ending brushing project.

How much time do you want to spend walking/running them ?

Two less common breeds that I have recent experience with come to mind as amazing buds. An ex has a Golden retriever Bernese cross, big dog (120 pounds), super smart and protective but chill, loved people, great with kids. He was hilarious actually, miss him not her lmao.

The current GF breeds and shows smooth-haired Vizslas. I kind of think of them as a smarter, more athletic mini-Labrador. They love to curl up on the couch with all of us, super affectionate but do need a lot of exercise. They shed very little and hardly need any brushing. They are in the 40-60 pound range.

    Matt

And Lassie saved him. If you get a collie Paul ya gotta name him Lassie. I am currently doing some work for a disabled vet and his dog is part collie and part Australian. Super nice female dog named Kevin.

I’ve never owned a collie but been around a few they were very similar to a sheltie in temperament.
I went to pick up this Sheltie yesterday.

Border collie, by far the smartest most intelligent breed that ever existed. These dogs are smarter than most humanoids, wifes/girlfriends and ...all liberals combined...not one them voted for biden...capable of understanding over 500 human comands at least... just for a start...

Thanks guys! Having an Aussie, I know all about the hair. I see that as bonding time.

Like I said, I am thinking about it.

Viszlas are cool for sure, reminds me of a Weimar with a bit different head shape.

BTW my Aussie sleeps in the bed with me in the winter.... I could imagine him and a Collie in the bed at the same time...

OH, and I didn't have a choice with my Aussie, but the next will be a spayed female!

I/We own 2 great Danes, both whom we love very much. Big goofy dogs, and yes, they BOTH sleep in our bed.

Cool dogs, but a Collie to me isn't a Collie without the hair. I am going with the hair. Funny, I let my Aussie out in the summer, 95 degrees ... and look out in the yard and he is laying in the sun!!! I think the hair insulates both ways.
