Old Skool 2.4L Stuff - Reed Block

I'm sure anyone of you who have worked on these old motors have seen the mounting screws for each reed extends way into the charge pathway. Would it be beneficial to to cut these screws that hold the reed in place down, or should it be left alone? One of the things that occurs to me is that the screw extending into the fuel/air pathway helps atomize/make turbulent the incoming charge. Or maybe, it simply heeds the incoming charge, and therefore should be cut down. What say you? Thanks.
