Excellent idea David - I was hoping the same - it wasn't just about the high speed run ? But about the rigging and what exactly went on here - like the school project and so on -
It got shot at a bit - buckshot mostly from what I read here .
I am of the same - good gas does seem to work well ! Or I'm kinda stuck on that theme so I don't offend . But still, need to see more ! Post more pics

Regardless of personal opinions on electric technology, it's obviously here to stay and will be making more inroads into all aspects of motor vehicles into the future. Regarding battery tech, Toyota has made a lot of progress on solid-state battery technology, and they plan to introduce it into their electric models within the next 5 years in all markets. The solid-state battery is seen to have potential to solve much of the current battery tech limitations.

I dont see him taking sides but pointing out facts..
And hes over and over asked everyone to keep it fairly civil and still gives alot of leeway.. not giving weeks vacations to people or banning them..
Always going to get heated when people start taking sides etc but...

Wrong. Removing posts with personal attacks against other members is not censorship. The word for that is maturity. I am not ashamed at all. I didn't realize there were 'sides' in a discussion about outboard engines.

I can restore any post I remove, but getting Google violations on this site because of name-calling and other nonsense is something I take seriously. I tend to get sick and tired of tediously hen-pecking bad posts, so in this case, I just used my thread-delete bludgeon and made my life easier. Over and over again, I ask that we keep threads civil, but that's just too difficult sometimes it seems.

If there is anything important in the posts I remove, I will restore them. But I am not a babysitter.

And are these the 'equations' you were referring to?:

Fuel + transformation device= useful energy. This equation is what we currently have with combustion engine.
    Now your way..
Fuel + transformation device = mechanical energy-electrical energy - storage device - transformation device = useful energy.

I think there is a mis-understanding about why electric is “better”. Someone said it right by describing it as a “remote emissions” vehicle, as they definitely create emissions. However, consider the efficiencies involved:

    - A carbureted 2-stroke is about 20% efficient at best.
    - A downsized gdi turbocharged 4-stroke is a tad over 30% efficient.
    - A modern F1 car is reportedly at or near a phenomenal 50% efficiency. The F1 cars are hybrid and have 2 generators on board, one powered by braking and the other driven by the turbocharger to recoup exhaust heat.
    - A modern cogen power plant that burns natural gas is over 60% efficient, thereby using 1/3 the fuel to make the same power as a carb’d 2-stroke, and will run for years without maintenance. Yes there are transmission losses in the lines, transformers, chargers, batteries, speed controllers, and motors, but most of these are near 99% efficient. The entire process is still more efficient loafing along than the absolute best demonstrated by a double-hybrid gdi race-gas IC engine. The other advantage of the cogen plant is that all the emissions are in one place, so the nox, co, hc, and even co2 can be controlled much more efficiently and effectively than the 1,000 individual gasoline engines it replaces.

Don't get me wrong; I’m not a supporter of rushing the transition. Current battery tech and grid capacity aren’t ready for prime-time. But consider how much better performing and practical an electric car is today vs 10 years ago. I think after another 10 years of development, it will be a real contender if grid capacity is there to support it. Consider for a moment that the ONLY >400 hp crew-cab full-size truck you can buy for under $40k is electric. Since when was cost and performance not an obstacle to high-performing electric vehicles? Since now I guess. And Greg is correct about solid state batteries being the next big leap, too. If solid-state is to LiOn like LiOn is to NiMh, IC engines will become boat anchors. I love my IC engines and have spent most of my life studying and modifying them, but it will all be extinct one day and that does make me sad on some level. But consider the purpose of the drivetrain (to turn stored energy into forward motion) and ask yourself this: If the weight and charge rate of electric comes down and the range comes up to gasoline engine levels, it has 90% less moving parts, and the cost, torque curve, tractability, and power are hands-down better, then what’s stopping you? People are working world-wide to address these issues as we speak.

Anthony, I respect what you’ve accomplished (even though I don’t personally want one with current battery tech). Heck, has an individual plus students ever built an electric boat and even run it at LOTO before? Has an individual ever built a full-size electric boat before that even topped 50 mph? While the stone-throwers may not even have functioning boats, you’re out there running a truly unique and innovative home-brewed creation at a nationally renowned event. Congrats on that alone! I too am interested in specs like battery type and capacity

Ev, battery tech and uni students should all be boat racing and or at endurance events.
Ron Hill tells me there are event in CA.
ICE racing will be around forever.
We might be towing our race boats with an EV but thats just natural progression.
Whose tow vehicle has a carby?

To me it's not so much that it's electric ... it's what it stands for.

First time in 80 years .. we were energy independent . Under Trump's admin. gas $ 1.95 a gallon.
First day in office brain-dead Joe clips the Keystone pipeline.
Not long ago the Colonial pipeline was "hacked" by Russians. B.S. it was a Washington hack.
Some bimbo from the white house staff goes on record by saying .. if everyone drove E.V.'s it wouldn't have mattered .. What does that say to you ? I know what it means to me.
Price of gas went up , pipeline restored , not only did the price not come down , it just went up again for the holiday weekend .
Watch ... when the E.V.'s are really ready for public consumption , the price of gas will go up to where no one can afford to buy it ... but to charge a car will become cheap ... till the gas cars are all gone .. then it will go up as well .. way up ...
And with a flip of a switch ... they can stop the whole country from being mobile .
I'm happy with my truck , 2 cars , boat and motorhome . They all run on gasoline. with the stroke of a pen they could be rendered useless and worthless. And I don't have the time or money to replace them from scratch again at today's inflated prices , just because it makes a small segment of our population feel better about themselves and the huge pile of money they scammed from U.S.
Limited range , charge by credit card only , sure won't be able to move about as freely as we use too. .

Your second post is not supported by your first post. There's things that could be debated in the second one. Many points the could be agreed upon. But the point you're missing is that this thread had nothing to do with politics, and you, among others just came in to **** on a guys project (that we later find out involved getting kids interested in building cool stuff, which we desperately need in this country). No need for politics in this thread, there's a sub forum that was put in this site for that specific purpose. It's just a guy thinking outside the box, trying something different, and having fun doing it. Being a fabricator, I'd think you'd appreciate such an endeavor.

I'm on a few different motorsports sites, and this is the only one by a longshot where so many people **** on anything that's new or different. Recently did a trackday on the motorcycle, and a couple EV motorcycle guys showed up to run. Everybody was excited and more than welcoming to see these guys, which is how it should be. Whether you believe it or not, this is somewhat of a community. Basically, you're just sitting back from behind your computer, throwing stones at another guys hard work. I guess whatever makes you feel better, bud.

You guys are so in love with the wasted horsepower coming out of your exhaust pipe you won't notice the rooster tail these motors will leave in your face. The denial will only get you so far for so long.

I asked you earlier in this thread about your electric powered vehicle, and did not get a response. Don't tell me you are still using gasoline, like us neanderthals?
