    Fatal Mistake !! Mercury 150hp

I made the fatal mistake of loaning my boat out to my buddy and he returned it and said he ran out of fuel and now it will start but not Rev up it bogs down !! So after checking over the basics and no joy I stripped the power head tonight and found that the top piston ring on no1 piston has broke and has smashed piston pieces into the cylinder head the bore is not too bad but obviously will need reboring and an oversized piston fitted my question is can I oversize just one piston or should I remote all 6 cylinders and replace all pistons
    thanks guys

Doing one cylinder is fine if the other 5 are ok. Maybe hone the five and put in fresh rings while it's apart

It's ok to lend a boat under two arrangements,
You f...k it you fix it
or sure you can borrow my boat, just leave your boat as security.

Yeah, thats exactly what happens when the locator pin gets loose and the ring rotates on the piston breaking in the exhaust port,

While I would never loan a boat to someone if you do and this happens how can you be sure it would not have happened to you anyway ? So if you are a boat loaner type do you accept the risk or the loaner take some as well......all reasons I would never loan in the first place, Either way sorry for the loss.

    When the locator pin fails....

One ring --> 100 little tiny sprinkles atop your piston

I have a VERY short list of people I will loan my boats too. But the ones on that list are responsible and run my stuff easier then I do.. I know that if something breaks it wasn't because the did something. It would have broke on me too.
