Anyone run a 3.0 L on a light lay up River racer, how does it handle and does the transom hold up to the weight

Being in the boat business all my life, racing boats in the 80s I flipped a Allison on a rough wave at 80, destroyed the boat but what was worst was thinking I killed the guy riding with me, I never run hard with somebody in the boat because of that, Im putting a Lightning together now to run and restoring a 18 vking for the ride around days. The biggest problem is that with credit a guy can walk into a dealership and buy a 100mph boat with no experience and be turned loose to learn the dos and don't on his own. John

Just saying that if no one rides with somebody after one pass at 85, sounds like it's going to end badly, hopefully no one gets hurt, so is it driver or boat that gets the blame, and I can tell you when it happens you have no time to do anything, it's instance, some people shouldn't have super fast boats, I saw quite a few 17 vectors take off with new owners stretching it out back in the day, most never got another boat, John

I used to run a Monty modded, nitroused 3.0L Johnson with a cut midsection on the back of a lightweight (~475lbs) Mirage about 20 years back. It handled very well and although you couldn’t walk anywhere on the deck, it held up fine. The boat was actually Monty’s old ‘96 race boat that he had a nitroused V8 looper on the back of, so that hull can definitely handle lots of power, lol.
I eventually switched to Merc with a 12” mid and it’s still going strong to this day.
Here’s a grainy shot of me chasing a friend in a Triad back in ‘99. The Mirage would trap over 115mph in the 1/4, but it had a nasty bog coming out of the hole that killed my ET.
Loved that old boat though:
Me and the old Mirage, many
moons ago:
It still looks good to this day. It now belongs to a good friend of mine:
