That sounds right. He used to post here and I had him as a FB friend, but haven't heard from him. I always wanted one of his boats!

I forgot to mention Howard Arneson. While not a "Frank Loyd Wright" of boat hulls, he sure made up for it with his drives. A lot of trial and error went into them. I've been at his shop back in the day and no telling how many $5k props were on the wall... Some okay, some torn up!

Steve built his boats like a true craftsman. One at a time and the hard way.....From his imagination to the drawing board, all the way to winning races. Quite a feat IMO.

James Beard and Clive Curtis designed the Cougar Catamaran that Skater, Victory, and Doug Wright, adapted their hull designs from. They were the first to design anything that look like modern offshore catamarans hull wise.

I would say we also need to think outside the power boat racing community and you will definitely find some innovative designs.

Think about the finned keel designed ~20yrs ago for the Americas Cup sail racing or the hydrofoil design on the adjustable dagger boards and solid sail masts on the Volvo around the world catamarans.

Then look at some of the new mega ships and super yachts
