GM Techs please
Love the ‘15 GMC Sierra truck I bought just over a yr ago.
But, the GPS/display on the dash is gone wonky.
When we did our 3900 mile road trip a couple wks back it started acting up,
The GPS would change screens by itself and then the radio started doing the same thing.
To the point that the radio started changing stations by itself!
The GPS has always picked a slower route than my phone so I never use it anyhow but now doing this?
Any history from you Wizards on this and how to fix it?
Thx guys!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

My 2014 GMC 1500 radio sometimes just goes out and stops working for about 10 minutes. Doesn't happen but once or twice a year but dang things are a POS these days. haha.

My 2014 GMC Sierra does not have navigation but the stereo system is glitchy at times. Try the battery disconnect trick first then google if that does not work. My truck is nice but I think it is my last GM.

My old 15 3500 ltz started doing that, the stealership done an update on the system and it fixed it for me. I sold it and bought a 2020 2500HD ltz Duramax back in July.

Sometimes the lights on the radio of my old Dodge dually go out. I usually can rap on the dash a few times and it comes back on. Have you tried that?

This is one of the reasons I am hesitant to buy something new. All of the different computer systems in vehicles now a days scares me. Give me a dual knob 6 station preset radio and I am happy as can be. GPS? Maybe if I am flying, but on the ground, a good old fashioned map works fine for me. Don't even get me started on some of the more complicated features in today's vehicles that are mandatory but not necessary.
But I am just that grumpy old man that refuses to keep up with society:

Entertainment? You want entertainment? Back in my day, for entertainment we would gnaw the bark off of trees! Our gums would rot, our teeth would fall out and we died. And we liked it!!!

Verify the grounds are good. Could try adding one to the head unit chassis and see if that helps

It is a very hi tech vehicle and has taken some getting used to.
Mainly good.
I read most/all of the negatives before deciding to gamble on one.
Partially due to 12 month bumper to bumper warranty (now expired) from the dealership that orig had it as a lease vehicle which meant they did the required maint.
Still has 60 month 100k on drivetrain.
Not really interested in the bashers telling me it’s junk.
It has a 6 speed auto that is fly by wire and it took some getting used to.
Once I learned it was fly by wire, that solved a lot of that concern.
The battery/voltage gauge fluctuates which is bad in a standard car.
On this one, the alternator varies output (Vs a regulator) as required by the battery, thereby reducing load on the motor and increasing mileage.
The V-8 to 4 system that everyone bashes, so far, has been perfect and is absolutely seamless at activation!
I watch for the light and try to “feel” it but is impossible, even while staring at the light.
Carbon buildup on the valves is a serious issue to that system so I run Seafoam religiously (used it in everything for 10 yrs) to prevent that.
Oh yeah, and it makes 380 HPs on crap gas!
A 100 more than the ‘95 it replaced and w/a 3k higher towing capacity.
Even being twice the size!
So, back to orig post:
Spent the last hr reading and is a common issue w/these vehicles.
Solutions/causes vary between fixing a loose ground, clean elect contacts of display unit, replacing display unit, to cycling the battery.
W/the last one being free, I will start there.
Thx to those that actually tried to help.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Most likely the head unit, can probably be repaired but at a cost. Never did like GM. Too many cheap parts!

Similar situation - my wife drives a 2013 Avalanche which had the head unit more or less quit. It also has the POS Bose amp and speakers so probably going to replace all that also. Looking for options now and would like to find something to just use the nav, music, etc. from the cell phone.

Don't know if you can do it in a '15, but my '08 Suburban, I pulled the stock radio and put in a Pioneer Nav radio, all new Alpine speakers, an Alpine amp and a self-powered Alpine sub..... sound great and the GPS is spot on.

Like he said in an earlier post, your radio/gps might need an update. Seafoam is great and I use it all the time. For carbon or catalytic convertor problems, try Cataclean, used it at work with cars and trucks that idle to death. Just use it as the directions say and it works.
