    "A" keeps the mushroom coupler from "falling" up and off the lower shaft.

    I haven't seen a 2.5 shift shaft since before Thanksgiving. If memory serves me correctly .. the little couple guy is pined to the shaft, and loads from the top .. yes / no .. <---{Quicksilver 101[-=

    "B" will not fit up into the exhaust plate (the hole is too small).

    "A" is the correct way and as the Merc manual shows it.

    This is what is shown in the Mercury Manual I purchased when I got the motor new. This is why I am questioning the correct position. The motor is a 2010 Sport XS 225 3L with a Sportmaster.

    I have seen that picture from the Merc manual before. It is incorrect. It will not go together with the big part on top. Just try it.
