    merc switch boxes

    what is the difference???and does it matter?

    Assuming he means difference between those called for on the "fishin" motors and the "race" motors. A12 and A14 respectively.

    I've turned the A12 boxes on my engine well over 8k.

    Ole t-rex said fishin boxes just as good as race boxes, except race boxes lighten ur wallet alot more

    Yes they do quite a bit lower back in the mid 90's i bought a new 225 pmax it had A15 boxs on it ( along with the 260 and any hot rod mota )a few years later they turned to A14 then A12 so i dont know why the changes but i twisted A10s just a high as the A15

    The A12 or fishing Motor box has a weaker Bias circuit than the A14 HiPo Box. The A12 has a tendency to fail in the higher RPM range 9500K and up.

    You know you're a bad mamajama when "higher" is over 9500RPM! To the rest of us "higher" is like 7500-8000!

    Its not uncommon to see properly Ported with Chest work carb Motors see 10k And EFI's 10800. Loosing a switch box on a carbed motor isnt as risky as loosing one on a EFI motor. Especially if its the Inside box that signals the ECU.

    I remember the old days when I was a kid seeing Seebold and them turn them that high but I've never had one I'd turn that high. I've pushed my efi 200 to ~8200 and I was grinding my teeth the entire time!
