The two powerheads in the first picture are just standard production V8. 3.6 liter 1985/86 and 87. 1988 and up 4.0 liter.
The second picture is the pure racing V8 used for the first time 1981. A completely different animal.. Lots of people believe the racing and production powerheasds was the same..
    Not even close..

Those were my pair of Monty V8's that went on my Scarab. Yes, 4.0's with butterfly packs. Early 90's blocks.

Who were the people who actually put these engines together? I know Rick Frost , Renato Molinari and Bob Thompson had their own people and probably Velden too. I got the idea that this was the primary idea behind the creation of 2nd Effort was that V8 racing product production did not take place on OMC home turf?

Well..OMC engineering-racing in Waukegan was building the powerheads. Then shipped to OMC Belgium for all the drivers overseas the first couple of years. Well..except Renato and Cees they got shipped to them directly. OMC promised all powerheads was very similar in horsepower.
Second Effort got involved 1983 and did service-repair at the US races.
As far as I know no driver/team worked on the powerheads..OMC/SE had excellent service at the races.

It's heartbreaking to see how BRP is handling our outboard brand we love.
I also found out BRP deleted all three Youtube videos we did when I was the Evinrude Ambassador. Lots of work was done to make those videos and they are gone now.

Another F1-V8 engine is getting service at the races by OMC.
There was two cylinder head castings. This is the one without detached cooling plate. Also the first “flat type” exhaust manifold.
So much fun thinking back on those powerful 2 stroke racing V8 engines.
