Lars, someone could write a great book about tunnel boat racing in the 70's and 80's. And a very important chapter would be what were the primary hulls used by OMC and Mercury. After the tragic death of Scotti, OMC's supply of excellent hulls was a real problem. And to add to the problem Scotti did not make many hulls for the new V6's. OMC V6 drivers around 1975/76 used a variety of hulls; Cougars, Burgess and even as Woods did a Seebold ! You have to believe there was more to OMC getting Renato & Bob Hering than just (2) great drivers, OMC just acquired a hull supplier to which they were in desperate need of. At this same time I think the love between Molinari & Mercury was 'going south' and Mercury had access to Seebolds, Veldens, Burgess, Twistercraft and maybe a few others.
Again, I think there was a lot of politics and strategizing going on between the 2 big outboard camps.

May 27 2020 is going to be a date we Evinrude lovers are going to remember for a long time.
I have always felt so good about the outboard brand that made me in to what I am today.
What happened today was far from a surprise for me..please give me a few days to think this over and I am going to write my take of all this..!!
    Thanks

They killed the E-tec’s, not Evinrude.

    Rotax anyone??
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Virus Effects - BRP & Merc

Merc completely re-did their big motor line (beyond Verado) while BRP did not (funding?). Covid19 has had adverse effects on both companies. BRP business unit did not survive while Merc was swamped with big motor orders they couldn't keep up with for the past 18 months but now they are flooding the internet with re-power ads? Covid19 had a weird side effect in the Seattle area. Dealers are seeing purchase runs on boats and yachts of all sizes and the RV dealers are too. Wait til the vaccines are deployed...……...put on your 5 point harness for the stock market ride.

I'm glad I have built up my own private stash of 4HP Folding Evinrudes and 9.5 short shaft fishing motors. Still my favorite small motors since I was a kid.
