2.5L XRi Oil Pump Driven Gear Removal
I read the some of the posts on removing oil pump, looking for tips on how to remove the driven gear from the hole once the pump has been removed. I'm stuck at this point of the procedure. can't seem to get the coupler out.
Any advice?

are you referring to the shaft that drives the pump?

Just yank the shaft out and put a factory plug in. There is nothing holding the shaft in place and the factory plug is used to make sure the bushing pressed in the block does not come out.

Lot of them never take the drive gear out just plug the hole the drive was removed from this motor and the gear being sloppy lose I,m sure it wear starts to work on the plastic gear
look at one of the two aluminum nuts that was rubbing the block it will put a load of metal in the block if the metal drive gear is removed be leave it are not

Ya that's y I questioned it also, every motor that gets a oil injection delete, has a gear in it for rest of it's life , u mite had put it back together wrong? Forgot loctite? Put that metal nut back in and had it flipped wrong to where it sticks out? That's bout all I can think of off top my noggin

One more time .....the gear did not come apart its been on the crank 28 years ..... It was the motor that came apart from all the metal that the gear took off rubbing the block...... I ran the new REBUILD motor 80 hrs with no drive gear just the main crank gear by its self and if u will look at the picture you can see that it had got into the block running it with out the drive gear and all the metal took out a rod from all the metal floating around in the block ....... I put a new crank in the motor new rods and bearing with out the crank gear on it and its running fine with no.... Crank oil pump plastic gear in it now
