    The 60 in 650s weren't fast but they were even more durable than the 500s.

    Growing up in late 70's early 80's my Dad had a Aluminum boat with a 65 Merc. Unsure of year but I think it had a red striped cowl. Neighbor across the street had 65 Merc but different color strip(unsure of his color). My Dad's ran like a clock. Sit for months crank n go never a issue the guy across the street hated his never did run right for him. Not sure if his motor was a lemon or operator error I just know we stuck with Mercs and he never bought another.....Memories

    Red stripe Mercs were 1968 to 1971.
    In 1972 Merc replaced the 4 cylinder 65 with an all new 3-cylinder 49.9 cubic inch 65hp. Blue stripes. Totally different engine from the 4cylinder 65hp.

    HEY!...there was a hint of red on all the 1967 stripes. Mostly silver, with a small amount of red above & below... ...A preview of sorts, of what was to come...
