Putting a clamshell cowl on a promax.

I've read the threads on it and some say it couldn't be done, even asked a few questions myself. Finally did it the other day and it wasn't really that big a deal.

The biggest thing I realized is that I could retain the 40A charging system. The only thing you can't do is run the flywheel cover, but I can't see a need for it other than the timing needle. There is ample room for the flywheel, no chance of hitting the cowl.

I fabbed some brackets for the back strap, and I had an idea or 2 that didn't work, so I have some extra holes in a couple of them. Nobody will see it but me anyway. That lined up real well and the cowl closed nicely. The front piece where the rigging and fuel line go through bolted right to the bottom of the air box using the same spacer washers that were on the bottom of the carbs on the other motor. The top 2 ears where the pins on the inside front of the cowl go was also a direct bolt on. Unbolted ecu, took spacer washers off, then put the ear bracket where the spacers were and put ecu back on. The only thing that took a little extra figuring was where to put the voltage regulators and trim solenoids. For the regulators I made a couple plates that bolted to the top of the motor where the alarm module was and to the side where the idle stabilizer was, then bolted the regulators to the plates. I took a piece of angle and bridged across using the old oil tank bolt holes and bolted trim solenoids there. That's about it. Most of the pictures are in progress pics, it’s much cleaner and tidy now.

It took me a little time figuring as I went, but when the cowl's on you'll never know anythings different. Hope this helps anybody who needs it.

Was hoping to save my old clam shells when I eventually get a ProMax! This is great news!

Was this the 200 clam or the 150 175?

That's pretty! Blue stripe with red numbers is one of my favorites.

    135. Has the 2 metal latches in front, not the plastic ratchet piece.
