    Lower unit seals

I got sum small rope caught up behind prop and killed seals , I've been lookin on promarine web site but not real clear on which I need to get. Lower is from a 2.4. Ratcheting if it makes a difference. I just wanna order em once lol. Wanna buy the seal kit but it comes with water pump stuff that I dont need , (just got complete kit) lower didnt leak at all b4 prop shaft seals got tore up. Hoping to pull em and install em without pulling carrier. Any help with part number for seals be great. Or if sumone has couple extra they wanna sell. Thanks

How do you plan to get them out without removing carrier? Boats.net or Marineengine.com and enter your year, make, model... OR Local shop who has been good to you that you'd like to support during these tough times?

Should be able to buy just the seals. I would remove carrier to replace them. It takes a special tool to install them. Not sayin you cant get it done without, but the tool sets them at the proper depth.

Get ya two of these. Don’t use the “outer line cutter seal”, especially if your are surfacing it. It will cut a groove in propshaft. Stock applications it’s ok. I personally always use the two “normal” seals, and always pull carrier to make sure I don’t scratch either surface and get em in straight and at proper depth. Plus like the idea of seeing how everything is holding up in there. It can be done without, just super careful and cautious.

Make sure you order the correct size. Fat shaft or small shaft. There is a slight diffrence. And 3 seals WILL fit in there. And I personally fill the seals with DOW 111 lube.

I haven't tore down a lower yet , is the reason I'm tryin replace without tearing down. Guess I'll order the carrier tool also and take it out. This shouldn't require any shimming ??

If you take the carrier nut off you can replace it with the thick one. It helps prevent distortion when surfacing. Haven't bought one in a while but IIRC they used to be 50 or 60 bucks...

If you go back with 3 seals put the first one lip in to keep oil in and the next two lip out to keep out water!

They come with 2, 3 will fit. If you run 3 they probably won't line up with the existing wear marks on the shaft either...

Won't affect the shims. Might need a slid hammer puller to get the carrier to slide out. Don't lose the little key.
