    Fail warning! water-in-fuel sensor

I had a bad surprise on Monday that I want to share. I was running across the lake when the starboard engine started running funny. I stopped to check and I could smell fuel so carefully idled over to the shore with the port engine. When I looked around there was fuel and oil all over under the VST and the water sensor wires were hanging down. It looks like the fuel or more likely an additive in the fuel has attacked the potting that holds the probes and wires in the plastic body. I don't know if this is a known problem but didn't get a hit on a search so figured I should post it to hopefully save someone else from having the same problem. My way-down-the-lake fix was to remove the plastic body from the VST and use a lighter to melt the plastic where the probes come out and pinch them closed with pliers. Put it back in and ran the rest of the week. Two new sensors on order!

If you add isopropyl to your fuel or isopropyl based additive it can convert to acetone and dissolve some plastics.

normally takes a catalyst on the non burning side. Sea foam has been known to mess up ecobost composit turbos and the gm plastic nozzles. It’s very rare chemical issue though. So no real worry.

I've only had the boat for less than a year so I don't know if it's had anything like stabelizer or octane booster added to the fuel. I've only put Havasu gas in it. Got the new one today and it would be easy to tell if it a problem. On the new one the potting is hard, not like jelly of the one that blew out. The arrow is where I heated and pinched it off to seal it up for the run home.
