Promax poppet kit number??
Ran around wendsday with a 30P prop and the temp alarm went off. Had 30# of water pressure or more. Yes 30. From 1" below to 2" above the pad then psi starts to drop off. .
This motor been sitting for 4-5 years. And Iv gone thru it but haven't replaced the poppet yet. So I'm needing the part number for THE FULL POPPET KIT. I find individual parts but not the kit. 1995 225 PM.

I was searching to see if any poppets would work in a 260 block. Another guy posted he has one and the poppet doesn't fit. Did Merc have to machine the poppet cavity to size and they didn't on 260 blocks?

Think this could cause it to get hot after a long 3-4 mile hard run?
Found some in the heads too when I had them off over the winter. So they definitely from the last owner.
same rocks.
what else can I do to get some out of the bottom of the block?Last edited by roadkill636; 04-13-2020 at 07:04 PM.

If it was a complete motor you got it maybe be wise to pull power head to see if you have some laying on/in the plate them back flush while hanging....JMO

I agree with Tux on this one. Long story but I want to explain how much can be in there and worth the read. My lower barely touched the mud last season when I started it up to move away from the lily pads. ***This was mud and the only time she sucked anything up since I bought the boat in July***I turned up some mud and it stopped peeing. I was waiting to load so I was only a hundred yards or so from the ramp. I decided to pull the poppet and give it a good flush and install a new water pump impeller. The impeller wasn't bad and clean as a whistle but I replaced it anyway. When I pulled the poppet it was full of pebbles. I cleaned it out back flushed it real good and put everything in new. That's when things got crazy. My engine started pissing erratically and the water pressure was all over the place. Went straight home and pulled the poppet again. Again there were pebbles and sand??? in there. I ended up doing this about 6 times last summer. Each time getting less and less pebbles and sand. The water pressure got more and more equal and it pissed better all the time. Ran the rest of the season with no issues and the water temp all through this ran at 145º or less. Fast forward to rebuilding my engine the pics show what was in the bottom exhaust plate. What's inside the tape roll was but a fraction of what I got out of the rear exhaust divider. Most of the pebbles came out when I flushed it with water. ***Remember all I had barely touched was mud*** I was shocked how much sand and pebbles were in there! I guessed when I cleaned it out with the powerhead still on. All I did was stir it up just enough to repeatedly clog up the poppet. Crazy the engine still ran as cool as it did. Oh! There are dump holes under all those pebbles in the exhaust plate. Obviously they were not flowing any water at all. Sorry to be so long winded but it was an eye opening experience for me. Plus it was good to see how it works once it was all apart.

Hydro, looks like you went clamming...

If it was fine sand or soft mud/murk you got caught in sometimes you can back flush and be fine....But once you see any little stones I usually remove the power head because those very rarely flush out while mounted. All they do is travel around your cooling system and sometimes get trapped in not so good places.
The other thing to keep in mind is running in soft sand is like using sandpaper on you impeller and pump top so it is wise to at least check it.
