With enough gas fumes, a drag on that cig will light the place up..... seen it happen a few times......

A mobile phone won't cause a fire(at a gas pump ) they don't cause static electricity by themselves
Even in a confined space full if fumes it wont
It's be proven.
It's not the phone
But sliding your hand in and out of your pocket to get your phone causing static electricity will especially in cold weather..

Yea nylon etc..women with stockings are the worst(back when the handle clips were still in use) in the cold get back in the car slide in and out and if they don't ground themselves first..and boom and worst thing is when someone pulls the pump out if you actually let go of handle (stop pumping) leave it in it's more likely to go out fumes get burnt off or at least doesnt explode into flames
They spent all the money on signs for cell phones etc which don't cause fires but they don't have signs about static and grounding yourself before touching pump

Now should people be using their phones at the pump mostly NO to many can't walk and Chew gum so they should be paying attention to the huge fire hazard the are pumping and wait 5 minutes. They like to think they are that important that it can't wait but yea it can.
Just watching them fumble with their phone etc while pumping makes you want to slap them
