For that application I would have used grade 8 bolts in metric size to make it the tightest fit I could. The holes in the bracket are 9/16'' and using grade 5 SS 1/2'' bolts is not good enough. And brass nuts are way too soft.

At about 30 minutes when he says and we’ll work on it tomorrow that says game over to me. The internals in that engine will cook overnight.

You ever seen grade 8 in a salt environment? They are bad enough when they are not, plated or not.

They make different grades of SS. I think they should be using at least 5/8 fine thread, or two 1/2 top bolts each side as said, six bolts per motor. Mine has 8 on each motor.

You like using cut off wheels? Or just like torture? SS nylocks are bad enough.

You have to eliminate movement with the slamming those motors are getting. They make grade 8 metric bolts in SS.

They are used in lots of applications and have dist. in the US. If you want the good stuff, you can't get them at ace hardware....

So Fastenal said they can't get you a better grade? I thought the Merc ones were good? Don't believe this was the bolts fault here, negligence.

I was kidding about ace. Fastenall has the stuff everyone uses. These are specialty bolts. But anyway, stainless hi-grade bolts do exist.

321 alloy bolts iirc are the good ones to use. Low gall, high strength. I believe there is also 410 or something like that but not as corrosion resistant.

Red locktite lol, yeah need some heat to crack loose. Same with nylocs a bit of heat helps a LOT but one time use. There are those distorted nut lock nuts as well as the sliced/pinched ones. All one time use with stainless imo due to the thread galling BS
