40 years ago I thought the same idea....blow air in one end and out the other..... 2 cranks geared. But in my way of doing it phase the cranks for different timing events. No head temp losses. Better use of energy......Sent the drawings to a patent submission corp and they wanted $6500 to do the law end of it......My wife had a idea about dog shampoo and they wanted $6500. That was the end of my thinking of different ideas. There was a motor cycle from Italy that had 2 clys paired with 2 cranks and one head......the air went up one cly to the head then down the other cly to exit.....2 cranks ran at diff speeds.....All I rember about that one......Another boxer was a diesel....that had a solid rod running to both pistons and a slider crank......gave very good results....no side thrust losses so higher comp # were used.

I watched the video, it looks good. One thing I noticed was the guy giving the tech info he said they estimate 37 MPG, that’s ESTIMATE 37 MPG, have they done no real testing? I ESTIMATE my wife’s new Compass will get 52MPG on the highway now that’s I’ve added my secret sauce, care to invest??

They do have over 7K hours of dyno testing.

Here are some more articles on the gasoline and diesel versions. They are working with Cummins to develop an engine/s for military vehicles too.

They have a shiney new truck in the video, have they not tested it on the road? Test track? Until they do it’s all pie in the sky, sort of like the MPG on their turbo trucks. Your mileage may very, very much.

This is what I found. I don't work for this company or own the company. I started this thread because I found it interesting and thought others would find it interesting too.

"In Detroit, Achates said it had formed a joint-development agreement with consultant Aramco Services. Financial terms were not specified.

With Aramco's help, Achates will develop the technology toward production and defray the costs of those activities...The company reportedly has nine development programs underway with engine manufacturers, at least some of which could lead to an automotive application.

The two companies will jointly continue development and testing of at least five Achates engines, and soon more, both at the company's headquarters in San Diego and Aramco Services' research center in the Detroit area.

They expect that working engines will be fully integrated into their test Ford F-150, and that the truck will be drivable before the end of this year.

The partners promised that media outlets will be invited to drive those development vehicles to get a sense of what the radical new engine design is like in real-world conditions."

"It already has a relationship with Fairbanks-Morse, which is using the Achates technology on a 12-cylinder, 24-piston, 5000-hp, 95,000-pound stationary diesel used for power generation. Fairbanks-Morse claims a thermal efficiency of 50 percent.
Achates is currently leading a project team consisting of Aramco Services, BASF, Corning, Dana, Delphi, Eaton, Faurecia, Federal Mogul, Honeywell, Litens and Federal Mogul, along with the Southwest Research Institute. CALSTART is managing the project and will collect and analyze emissions and performance data.

Achates is also working with Cummins to develop a 1000-hp opposed-piston engine to power combat vehicles for the U.S. Army. Fromm says that the company is in talks with several major automakers that are interested in the GCI version. But with nothing concrete yet, and with the lengthy development and testing times that new engines undergo, we won't see an Achates engine on the road for at least five years."

    >>>News about the diesel version<<<
    >>>https://www.hardworkingtrucks.com/ac...peterbilt-579/
"Achates Power announced that it has achieved ultra-low emissions with its 10.6-liter two-stroke diesel.

The opposed-piston engine reached an ultra-low NOx standard of .02 g/bhp-hr in the company’s San Diego-based lab and will enter a fleet testing phase early next year with Tyson Foods and Walmart in California.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and several air districts are funding the pilot which is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2020. Tyson and Walmart will each receive a Peterbilt 579 equipped with an Achates 10.6-liter diesel."
