It was '71 or '72, don't remember, I was racing a Mod 1 Polaris Playmate with the local Hoppman Bros. race team, we got to practice on the track. Coming down the hill my tach only went to 8000, and it was already there halfway down the hill! Race day I qualified and was on the starting line, someone taps me on the shoulder and pulls me off the track. He had a letter from USSA banning the 12 inch track machines - my Playmate and one by Artic Cat - to dangerous it said. Bull****, they couldn't be beat - I was not the best driver in the world and usually beat myself! So ended my snowmobile racing career.
