Aftermarket Reeds for OMC V6
I'm running a 98 200 Oceanpro thats stock for the most part, It runs pretty well,
but I wonder what a set of Chris Carson Reeds would do for it? Just curious. I'm not expecting any Hp increase, just maybe some more efficiency.
My '93 25 Evinrude never idled smoothly until I installed a set of Boysen Reeds in it, then it settled right down and ran great!

I'm impressed by the idle of the Carson reeds! I think he offers a discount to site members but I usually just get them from Pro Marine with my order when they have them in stock...

Boyesen hands down. Alan Stoker ran a dyno test on an OMC Looper that proved that they made the most HP. It might not in your particular application, but the dyno tests don't lie.
Do a search. It is here.

There you go, 3 posts, 3 different reeds recommended! Jay, do the TDR reeds install like factory or do you toss the reed stops like with the boyesens?

I remember seeing that years ago. I'm sure the results are different for different motors. Looks like the Boyesens cracked during the test too...
I've had good luck with the Carsons, I have a motor that ran great for years with Boyesens also. They did crack but it was a rod that got them so not sure it counts! Never used the TDR's but Jay swears by them and he's built more winning race motors than I ever will! I'll probably be trying a set of the TDR's soon.Josh Peterson

Josh I built one this week 200 EFI low rpm motor on bass boat and I left the reed stops on the 4 petal set up with the TDR reed of coarse , Ive batted 1000 with the .022” no back cut TDR’s , on 11,000 rpm + motors as well as 6500 RPM ones . I have used a roto band saw and cut the stop angles off and dress up the clamps if the motor is gonna turn up ...
Thanks for asking , you staying warm ? Thank God I got all my open shop machine work done in the machine shop area , got motors to assemble in the warm assembly area !

Is there an echo in here? I think I sad that, didn't I? Fact- the Boyesens made more horse power in that application, like I said.
You say it "looks like the Boyesens cracked during the test too..." "looks like"? What the hell is that?
Where did you read that? I didn't see it anywhere. Alan sure didn't mention it.
And that is the second time you mentioned Carsons. But I expect nothing less here from folks that think their opinion is worth more than others, so they post it more often.
I've been running Boyesens for years with no trouble at all, less self inflicted when I popped a motor.

"Looks like?" Looks like I read the whole post, I clipped some out:
Alan said: "Boysen had a few slightly open, causing a split on restart"
My opinion is worth what you paid for it, take it or leave it...
I have had nothing but good results from Carson, Jay has had nothing but good results from TDR. MANY have seen deterioration of Boyesens over time (including myself). There are better options (and cheaper) than Boyesen. If you are comfortable with them by all means continue to run them! For me it's not worth the trouble when other better solutions are out there!
Jay, luckily I've been working inside too! Do you have a set of the TDR's for a 4 petal in stock? I'd like to try them out!Josh Peterson
