I know I don't really belong, but say "hello" anyway

Greetings. Just picked up a 94 Seaswirl Sypder 188 with a 5.0 Cobra EFI. It doesn't run, but the hull (and the price) was too good to pass up. Reason I ended up here is googling for info on this boat led me to your member derpid with the same hull in an OB config. I've already read all his posts and IM'd him questions about his stereo install (priorities). This is my first speedboat hull and first sterndrive so lots of research to do before spring.

Not sure why you think you don't belong here, there is good info here for most all boating projects.

Yeah, that was just tongue-in-cheek. I realize this site is geared more towards real speed (and outboards) than joe average pleasure craft, but I've been learning a lot already reading threads. The good part about buying this boat in the fall is I have a lot of time to research, the bad part is I'm excited to get going and have to stare at it under cover for four months. Hoping for an early spring! I already acquired a full set of factory service manuals for it. I'm also over on iBoats which is more my speed (pun intended), and have found some great threads with similar engine/drive package to what I have.

Here's the real reason I couldn't pass up this boat. Factory installed cooler! You can adjust the CG by how much beer you bring

And if there's too much weight overall, drink the beer and pee it overboard!

ill tell you from experience us spyders are somewhat of a minority on here lol but on the plus side there is endless amounts off knowledge and people willing to point you in the right direction. i can tell you that the spyder is a nose heavy boat with almost no full length lifting strakes. It rides nicely and handles well IMO as an OB. you,ll enjoy it im sure.

Welcome to the site. Guys like you are very important to us hot-rodder's. We don't have enough room for beer.

Welcome. First thing, thru transom exhaust, since you have a Cobra outdrive, put a OMC Raker prop on it for bow lift (in case of full cooler of beer) and run the hell out of it.

This short vid went a long way in convincing me I wanted this boat. Looks like his exhaust is out the sides. It's an older boat so prolly carbed. My research tells me the 5.8 EFI was 40hp more than the 5.0 EFI (260 vs 220). Not sure about carbed or what work may have been done to this boat, but it sounds great and looks pretty speedy. Makes me sorta hope my 5.0 is junk so it's easy to justify getting a 5.8!
