EVINRUDE E-TEC Questions
Does anyone have any factual specs on them?
What is actual HP of a 225 250 300 ?
What is optimal rpm ?
I don't see many for sale or even used in a performance application but hear good things when I do.
Do lower units hold up with large props on them?
Are there any gear ratio options?

Best of my knowledge with the 10% allowed by federal law the 250 ho puts out about 265 hp. Not sure of the 300 as I myself want mine remapped to 300 specs. As for my motor it does not like low rpms,(3500 or less) due to the computer being water cooled, it will overheat easy. The magnum 2 is the lower I have,(synthetic gear oil could add up to 300 rpm)turns 6400, modded with nose cone and pinned carrier bearing, gearing not as high as the lightning, but it does have a fat shaft.i have no prob turning a 28 trophy 2 or a 30 et, omcs always liked a little larger props than mercs. To the best of my knowledge.hope this helps..

The 3.4 makes 278 and has a bunch of grunt. The cases are strong but they are big so they need to be water pickups modded and to run high. We run 1.62 sportmaster on them for boats faster than 80 they work great. Mine is not stock but it’s been 114 with a small prop I’ve made some changes since then need to go make a real pass should be close to 120 with this small prop. I’ve got a 36 that usually runs 10mph faster than the 30. Big blocks don’t like high rpm peak power is low but it turns the 30 7300 pretty quick.

If it is a 3.3 you won’t benefit from a 300 map. The 300 map is for a 3.4 and requires some porting and mods to support the 100cc extra fuel. We have a 3.3 running 3.4 map successfully with the supporting mods. It is on a 65mph center console we setup with a fresh 3.4 300 All we swapped was the Powerhead to the ported 3.3 and it runs the same speeds. Crude way to test it but he says he doesn’t notice any difference in power and it doesn’t paint the cowl black with soot (like a stock 3.3 did with a 3.4 map) so sounds like it’s burning the fuel.
