    Wixom Michigan Boating

Need some advice Michigan S&Fers... I am likely relocating to Wixom, shotgun decision but gotta make it work. only been there briefly twice so haven't had a chance to really explore...
Whats the 411 on boating... are the lakes private or public, big enough to rip in my gambler?.. most importantly wheres the action at on water and off??

Smallish lakes lined with houses. Many have speed limits and are heavily congested during weekends.

Good news northern St Clair and the channels and bays are not far away.

If you have a 30' or bigger, the East side of Michigan has plenty of great boating. For your gambler, you need to check out the chain of lakes in Coldwater. If you are willing to travel a little bit then Hardy dam is the place to be able to run. Like Capt. said, most of the inland lakes have been restricted and are packed up with tri-toons and wake boats. 25 years ago it was a different deal.

Lake St Clair for calm days, Holloway Reservoir (near Flint) or Whitmore Lake for rougher days. Wamplers Lake in Irish Hills has some bass tourneys. Kent Lake in Kensington Metropark for after-work fishing (no wake). Make sure your trailer bearings are in good shape, because you’re going to be doing some towing. Hopefully you’re working near where you’re living, because I-96 will make you want to slit your wrists almost daily. 696 will be open by spring, don’t waste your time launching south of Jefferson and Crocker on LSC.

Wixom to Coldwater is quite a haul, not worth the trip except for Hot Boat/Corn Roast weekends. But yeah, almost everything within 30 minutes of Wixom is either speed-limited (under the normal 55mph on MI inland lakes) or loaded with jackwagons on jet-skis and pontoons.

Also- Remove any of those Buckeye stickers from your vehicles. These savages will run you right off the road. New Hudson Inn on Grand River is pretty good food. Stingers in Wixom has some decent live bands. Huron Valley Guns in South Lyon is the best gun range in the area, and the brisket burger in the restaurant there is real good. We have now officially covered all bases of my useful knowledge. Good luck with the Oakland County property taxes!

They keep making more and more of the river no wake up by Bay City. Takes forever to get to the Bay, and there’s maybe 7-8 miles where you can actually run. Boaters beach to the sandy spot by the airport takes over an hour at idle and all your beer is gone by then!

    I’d rather do this, though.

Much appreciated fellas. Hardy dam looks legit.. that 55mph limit seems to not be in effect there from youtube! No buckeye stickers here.. from cleveland so I get to be a browns fan

Aside from the failed one by Seafood there hasn't been a new no wake zone from Saginaw in years. And it's twelve a half miles to drunk beach.
