Just to offer my perspective. I have been reading Scream and fly everyday for 3 years. I often times think that I might have an idea about how to fix a problem, but know that there are a core group of people who really know their stuff. I only know a little about my 2.5 Mercury. Many times I find myself trying to post, and realize that I am just doing it to prove to myself that I have something to offer, and realize I really don't have enough experience to offer a thought. I read Bills question about his 280 and would have liked to propose some thoughts but knew that there was another person, on the site, who has most likely, has a 280 and may have had a similair issue. I know Bill has had a renewed interest, in Hi-Po boats and value all of his posts. I really appreciate this site, and have recently been thinking more about how to contribute to the group. Thanks everyone.

We may be old but were not done yet FB sucks but this site is not about that, I get frustrated at times with stupid questions, but its from someone who is asking for help who has not found another site to give a damn about that question and they find s-f and ask it and bam got a answer that's good as gold and no B/S cause were here to help.It may be fusrtating to others as maybe the question has been asked many times before but nowadays the tech is overwhelming as if I don't have a laptop to diag this motor im screwed Not so true as a motor is a motor it gets down to the basics than goes from there,im 57yrs old and I can still fix um without a laptop . JMTC still hope this site site remains GREG it seems all we old timers got left and the younger crowd needs us as well.We all need to learn some way or another.
I may be slow but im ahead of you. *hit's only ankle deep but you went in head first.

And please allow me to articulate a bit further pertaining to this Thread. I know for a FACT that Greg puts his HEART AND SOUL into this site. If anyone thinks its a cake walk I suggest you step into Gregs shoes for just One Day. I have been devastated by some happenings on this site over the years some have even cost me dearly. Not because of this site but because of people with a Attitude. Did I turn my back on this site because of it? NO. This is by far one of the best High performance Boating Forums in the World BORROW NONE!!! I have had alot of Dialog with Greg personally over the years and I am Proud to personally call him a friend.

Now to the original poster of this thread. If you really want to know what has happened to this site? Maybe you need to look in the mirror. as you yourself admitted "It has been years since I posted on this site". And I ask have you even once contributed to this site? Either helping, advising, sharing information or joining so mush as a Team member??

Thank You Greg for all that you do that goes un noticed or un appreciated. As for me I am Grateful you keep this site together.

I only have one answer for now, and for all-time: Life changes, people change, people come and go, and life goes on. I am a member of many message forums for cars and other things, and some of them I have not posted on in a while. But that has nothing to do with anything on those sites that drove me away.

Why must it always be attributed to a failure of this site? This site is a community of people helping people - there is no one single authority that creates and distills content here. If something seems different and if members perceive that as a negative effect, then the proactive members that care enough to take active steps to help it will ultimately determine the trajectory of this site. This site belongs to all of us. It's up to all of us to maintain it. If there's an issue, please contact me and let's fix it. Many members here will attest to the fact that I will contact anybody to work out disagreements and other issues.

    And then there's this:

Says who? Are we all expecting a community of robots that just acts all submissively? I understand that some people can grate on others. There's no such thing as any forum or community that does not have this happening. If somebody takes time to follow other interests or has other things in life occupying their time, again, it's somehow seen as a failure on the part of S&F. I won't blindly and ignorantly say that nobody leaves the site because of a specific issue with somebody or some reason, but I also don't see the above reasoning to be a universal answer to why the average post counts of a member might be lower than usual.

There's no such thing as an online community - be it here, Facebook or wherever - where there will be no disagreements and friction between members. I believe the community of members here to be one of the most helpful and well-mannered of all online forums. Nobody is "fed up" to any serious degree, and believe me, in nearly all cases, if there's such an issue, they contact me. Most members that care enough to have invested a great deal of time here do so because of a love for boating and sharing their experiences. That love of boating and camaraderie will almost always transcend member-specific annoyances, and they'll usually care enough to contact me if there are issues concerning them.

I have absolutely no problem at all with people noting changes - that's part of the site, and I've always been guided on this site by the thoughts of all of you. But I also feel that the "what happened to the site" threads just do not contribute in any way whatsoever to helping the site. After all, this site is about its members, never about one person. How about, "let's try to do this..." or something similar if there's an area needing improvement?

Finally, just because some people are not regularly posting, that doesn't mean they're not on the site.

    Wow ,
Bill and I are long time friends , I’ve done work for him in the past , he personally contacted me ( not on a board ) with this issue and I wrote a “book” on where to start looking and what to check to eliminate this issue , maybe any and all my “fixes” didn’t work , my last words to any and all that call , email , text , smoke signal me their issues and or problems ( and believe me I get many calls daily )are if these suggestions and or pathways hit a wall - don’t work call me back, then will “ cuss and discuss “ the issue again and travel another path for success.
    Good luck Bill ,

I just think he was so pissed off by already trying so hard he was just venting in the heat of the moment,
I know from my own experience if I'm totally frustrated thoughts go through my mind to say or do something that I'm glad later I withheld

I was going to let this post die a natural death?? When I posted about the site of course it wasn't "the site". The site is just a tool for guys posting on it. The members are the site. Jay has been a long time friend and most helpful over the many many years. I didn't want to bother him again with my problem. In the "old" days a problem posted would have had many guys posting with helpful ideas. I know I must sound like one of those old farts where everything was different in the "old" days. Guess that part is true. My question was answered with "original posters thinking they knew more than guy trying to help", and another post about new engines are way different than one ones. Its not the end of the world just curious how things change. As I stated been checking in daily for twenty years. Haven't been on the water much since last boat accident at Marble Falls drag event. Just built a new home on the lake and started getting back on the water. My post wasn't meant to be a slam on Greg or anyone. Sorry if it came out that way. As I stated in original post, still the best post for boat enthusiasts there is.
Thanks to all who posted helpful ideas. Found broken wire in harness. Now working back over 100mph.

Bill, I was actually coming back to this thread to add to my post, and also to tell you specifically that my post was not directed at you or anybody else specifically. Believe me, I am well aware that you are one of our original founding members. You joined this forum in the very first days of its creation, and that always carries a tremendous feeling of pride as well as an obligation to keep this site both firmly rooted in its original goal of being a fun place for boaters to help other boaters, while still expanding its growth. That's not easy at all sometimes, and you and others will know that I think I learned many hard lessons along the way. But I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. I'm sure you also remember that on numerous occasions I sent you messages on Facebook about your fading involvement in the site, which was not at all seen by me as something you did to the site, but rather I assumed there must be a problem somewhere on S&F and I wanted to fix it. So, it's important for me to underscore that if somebody decides to pursue other interests, or just wants to take a break from here, that I will never rule out the possibility that something happened here to cause it, but also that I would always like the chance to fix whatever it was. However, I'll always respect any decision if a solution cannot be reached.

Hard to believe that this summer marked 20 years of S&F. I feel old now! I am always very thankful for all that you have contributed to S&F to help it grow.

    Greg

You have a week to plan it. If you want to fly down on the cheap, check out Allegiantair.com and they fly into Sanford/Orlando. We can get you to Toms from there if you come in on Thursday and are welcome to stay at my house if needed. Don't wish-make it happen while you can (life is too short to miss out on this deal).
