That aircraft is not retired. It had a recent upgrade with a satellite com system. That photo is from before the work was done. It was done by Northrop Grumman. Maybe it was barged to Long Island? Seems rather bizarre to transport it that way but it IS the government after all.

Prob had "work" done on it by someone they found later they couldn't trust. Didn't want to take it up till completely gone thru and re-fitted. You might laugh at this possibility, but I bet they don't.....Planes crash all the time, right? Barge it if not flight worthy is only option.

I got curious and now see there is no waterfront Northrop facility on Long Island. That only leaves the Northrop plant in Groton. Now it all makes perfect sense. To get your airplane upgraded, barge it to the submarine base!!!!!

And of course......hire a tug from South Carolina to tow it

It never was an Air Force One. It was a firefighting supertanker owner by Evergreen before it was flown to Quonset Point, RI (a retired Navy base). It got a new paint job as you can see, and they parked a black Tahoe in front of it for a few months. I’m not sure where it’s heading now, but for some time, the motors were removed and gutted. Now it’s an empty shell.

Actually, it's the decoy plane.... they figure it going that slow, all the terrorists who want to shoot it down will line up on the shore and shoot at it as it passes by...............
