It's been awhile since I've seen one of the old V4's but I believe what Flabum thinks is a pin is actually the bolt that holds the motor in the transom brackets bolted to the transom. The lever ...if I remember correctly...is for the shallow water drive/tilt...pushed out away from the transom was for holding it tilted out and in against the transom allows it to rest against the transom...the shock are probably seized although I've never seen that happen before...tomorrow I look to see if I still have any service manuals for that motor.

After a quick check I believe the part # for the shocks is 379148....Ebay has a couple of them but I'm sure they can be found closer to you.

After checking this morning the part # is indeed 379148 and there are 2 of them....that lever on the side does control two tilt positions and the owner should be able to at least remove them for hauling if he wanted to deliver it to you in the down position.

OMC 379148 is made by Prestolite, their # is 379079 I just ordered 2) delivered for $30, Thanks Dan.

On the frozen shocks, He has a very close friend that coming out for some site seeing w his girlfriend, I'm gonna suggest a transom saver from the lower to the trailer. (part of their payment is a boat ride on the CA Delta) ;-)
