    triton with 200 merc

Son is in the process of buying a 2001 Triton bass boat with a 1998 Mercury 200 EFI outboard I know a little about Mercury inlines, but nothing about late model EFI. Supposedly the oil injection pump has been blocked off and you now have to premix, my question is, to do a compression check, is there anything I have to ground, or unplug??? I do not want to fry his new baby. Thanks

I'm not sure of the correct name, but u can buy the tool,or way I do it is put plugs n wires and wrap a long copper wire something similar around ea plug and ground back to the block. Sry for not knowing correct part name, but object is to keep the spark from jumping around and frying something

Yes, water pump will be like the inline.

For the compression test just ground the yellow/black kill switch wire at the switch box. I just use a short jumper wire with alligator clips. Much easier than a jumper for each plug. This will kill the ignition for the test!

So, Saturday morning met the current owner and went for a little ride, motor started right up and ran great, now the guy is the Previous Owner (PO). He claimed to always used anybodies regular 87 octane gas and only changed the LU oil in the fall at winterization. Do you see any problems or, it ain't broke, don't mess with success????? Thanks guys.

In us all the time. It’s free fine, BUT we all even the “i fish every day” doesn’t.

When it sits is the problem with e-10. Clean e-free 87 is about the best for just about any outboard but it’s as rare as a goose that lays gold eggs.

Scope the bore and intake and look at the filter for signs of ethanol damage or rust from water left behind when the ethanol evaporates.

If stored on land and not kept on the water it’s probably fine and never phase separated, or sat with the bore wet.
