N.GA, SC Lakes
We spend most summer vacations in the N. GA mountains and are thinking about buying a place. I’ve been researching lakes since it would be a blast to take the Talon in addition to the bikes, especially when it’s 95 and raining every afternoon down here.
What can you tell me about Hartwell and Keowee or any other lakes in that part of the country? I know most are managed by the Army Corp or TVA and the levels fluctuate over the course of the year but beyond that I have little knowledge.
Thanks!Mark

both lakes are great. lake hartwell is over 52k acres. Lake keowee is much smaller and the water is more clear. above keowee is lake jocassee and the water there is very clear. Lake hartwell has several performance boats on it and lots of room to run.

Has the water level at Hartwell come back up? For awhile there it was pretty low? I have heard Keowee is really clear too as obrien said. Have not run either one, even though they are pretty close. Come on over to Lake Norman anytime Mark!

Lake Jocassee is about as beautiful as the come. It's a mountain lake with a number of waterfalls that you can drive up to. IT's cold enough for the trout to survive so it's pretty cold. There are only a few places to put in on Jocassee, the best place is Devils Fork State Park.

lake hartwell has actually been above full pool this year. it was very high from what I was told for the poker run
I moved away from there a few years ago, but I still have friends there that I talk to on a regular basis.
Just Tool'in are you familiar with Boat repairs plus in Denver?

Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee are both awesome lakes. I used to run my Mirage Ski Racer every Saturday and Sunday morning on Hartwell. In the early morning, the big water is calm. I could run 90 for long stretches, back and forth. Like all lakes, gets busy in the afternoon and you gotta watch out for rollers. Great places to boat.

Lake Russell just below hartwell is the best high performance lake around by far zero traffic it is a undeveloped lake on 4th July we seen 8 boats and they were bass boats you could stretch that talon out for miles

if you decide to check out lake jocassee, just make sure you get to the ramp early becuase there are limited numbers of parking spaces

I agree with all of the above, I grew up on lake murray and still live there but my entire family lives in Pumkintown, SC and I boat on keowee or jocassee about every other weekend. I have been to a rally on Russell as well and it was very quiet and had some good scenery as well. Enjoy!

We haved lived on or near Lake Keowee for 14 years and love the lake and the area. Been on Hartwell also. Hartwell has more performance boating, but Keowee is clear and deep. Jocasse is a gem, and super deep. Parking is tough at Devil’s Fork Staet Park, but there are waterfalls on the lake, which makes it an awesome trip. Keowee has two, but one is almost inadcessible. The other one is the party spot.
The wakeboard and surf boats are messing things up IMO, so watch out for the rollers, but all three lakes are excellent. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
