Ok so pulling the plug lead on #6 results in no change to the idle, but pulling #5 does affect it...all sparks are still good (will jump a 1" gap easily), as far as I can see fuel is being injected to #6 (wet plug after idling), and compression is definitely over 120...
I re-crimped the wire joins between the stbd side swbox-ecu-coil wires because they were a bit crusty, checked injector resistance is all 1.3ohm per pair... checked all grounds are good, put the sierra switchboxes back in place of the chinese ones (no difference - seems like the chinese ones might be quite a good deal at $30each!)
f**k this is doing my head in

IVE never saw a coil jump a 1' ' gap. no way. how about other cylinders; pulling wire off???? try switching plug 5 with 6. try a fast idle and pull off #6 man, you covered everything. maybe the trigger is wackin timing to #6? got spark got fuel got 120 psi its has to fire! its all the same jap crap electronics. reeds areall sittin right? sure wet plug is gas, not water? leave wire on #6 with plug out/ ground check for actual spark at plug. has to be #6 timing is off, bet ya. ART DIDNT you tell me about a used acu being a unknown? thats why i bought a new one, no offense. pics of 5-6 dont look wet but u say its wet now at idle? i have a trigger 87 220 probably good i can send ya lastly #6 plug could have a condition known as high speed glazing caused a conductive film coating the ceramic grounding out plug a dirty plug super heated quickly causes this. plug is trash.

Check the lower crank seals, healthy coils will jump a 1 inch gap easy, but when you get into things like this where it was fine before and you change parts I'd look into the sealing of the 5/6 reed cages and interference with the front half with the stuffers.

Cheers guys
I'll start moving plugs and coils around again when I get some decent weather again. The ACU went back to Tony for a remap and was tested before I bought it. He mentioned the possibility of the switchbox taking out an injector driver when it died though - probably not likely.
Capt you could be onto something about the stuffers... I did have clearance issues with them and the front half but I thought i had cut away the parts that weren't clearing. It seemed to be sitting nice and flat when i put it back together but will investigate that for sure
