2.5 Merc TPS NLA?
Have 2.5L 1991/1992 200HP Merc with a TPS sensor thats got a bad spot in its range, engine is low hours fresh water engine and runs great, excellent compression, oil injection removed and timing retard modules removed which was done by myself to improve reliability.
Since I want to maintain this engine in good shape I was checking all the electronic components and setting the timing correctly at 23 degrees I found a bad spot in the TPS right at part throttle...obviously its worn out.
The replacement is no longer being made and the Merc dealer has an alternative part number which adapts to the older engines for $400 CDN where the old style TPS was $90CDN!!!
I managed to find old stock in the US at various dealers but either they are unwilling to ship or simply don't return my calls, not too many left out there and their stock level on the dealer network may not be accurate so I could be SOL anyway.
Now I don't mind making the investment in a $400 TPS if it truly was superior component that might last longer than the original but there is nearly no info on these simple devices that only vary resistance with throttle movement.
I am very handy when it comes to electronics and fabricating so for $400 I could make a pretty fancy TPS sensor using industrial POTs that would never wear out, heck at dollar value I could do optical sensing with a small control board.
My question is are there alternative old school TPS sensors available from the aftermarket or is it possible to disassemble the old sensor and restore/clean it (essentially have you done it with success). If the new style sensor is a different design and much longer lasting and worth the upgrade I could swallow the cost but if its the same design and just a money grab I'll come up with my own solution.
Pics attached of the boat/motor combination.

You can't service them. Have to buy new or get a Brucatto ACU. They don't use the TPS.

Sure looks like a Brucato SVS is a better spend of the money, I've never looked into them before this.
I assume there is a performance advantage as well, need to justify another mod to the wife...haha.

Ugh, I totally misread the application I apologize for that. And holy sh*t that price. I can't imagine the 3 liter sensor is any different other than the connector?

No you still need the sensor, I thought he had an external tps horn motor.
