    Gear Case for e-tec Gen 1 300

    I have a 300 e-tec with a mid cut to 16" and running a V6 standard gear case. Prop is a 4-blade 28 pitch. It accelerates and has tremendous torque, but also quickly hits the rev limiter before WOT. Top end is not that good... I'm thinking going to a more durable gear case, and have noticed some people modifying a sport master to fit.

    What are your experiences with a sport master on this motor? What gear ratios, 1.62 gears? I believe mine is the standard 1.8 but have not verified that yet. What prop have you combined with the gear case to keep the motor off the rev limiter? Thanks in advance!Click image for larger version.

    Yours is 1.86. Going to a 1.62 sportmaster will make a big difference in the top end especially as you go up in pitch on props....

    That is a pretty significant change in fear ratios and better than I had hoped. I am in the Knoxville TN area. Any idea on shops that can fit a merc gear case? Jacos a few hundred miles... which is feasible. Will a 3 litre or 2.5 fit?

    1.62 is the best mod I’ve done to one but also the most expensive. Plus the sporty is designed to go fast handling and reliability is improved. 1.85 to 1.62 is equal to approximately 4-5” of pitch (Gear is not the same as changing prop) but rpm vs speed. The Big Gear Allows you to run smaller props which is also easier on equipment.

    3.0 is best since it comes with the big Gear, has a big water pump and we mod them so there’s no adapter.

    I'm concerned my gear case won't last... Starting the decision process now rather than wait until it is out. I have 2 other boats so it won't ruin my season to have it down though. What about a magnum or lightning, can I get similar results to the sporty?

    You wont have the 1.62 gear with those options, so no, you won't get similar results. It would be worth the extra money IMO....Kevin (Baja200merk) does a conversion.

    Wanna buy a taylor 16" mid and 2.5 right hand sporty and wingplate (1.62) ? .. no adapter needed comes with clamp bracket also.. PM if your interested

    I had Kevin do a 3L Sporty conversion for my motor and haven't looked back! He does great work. So I'd look into doing the same for your rig... In the mean time, keep an eye on the "props for sale" section and look for something in a 32'' pitch. An ET style blade in a 4 blade would make a noticeable difference with your current setup for sure.
