I'm on board with the new Mercury V8 Line!

My hat's off to Mercury Marine's effort on weight savings. Yamaha V8 (1000 lbs)? Too heavy and too pricey. Is there any info on the MSRP for these new models yet?

Fugi, I’m mercury through and through—— I bleed black—— the only one to answer Lassie and his forty year old “FACTS” and I have to tell you—— I’m not impressed———300 hp from 4*6litres—— a kid of middlin intelligence could do better with a LEGO set——— give him a MECCANO set and theres no telling where it might lead.

OMC used to sell a 3.6 300 with 1950's machining quality, was 400hp with a little detailing for the same weight?

Hang in the Jackie - that is just the start. The 350 and 400 Verado will go away in tme and I really feel we will see a 500 - from 4.6 L 500 is a walk in the park, especially with the valve train and related stuff right off the MerCuiser race engines.

So why are Merc pissing about with V8 of very low horsepower——- I have always loved the traditional Yank V8 auto motors——- simple, gas guzzling, slow reviving, easy to work on and last a lifetime engines.
If OMC could muster 400 from three and half litres forty years ago——500+ - should be a walk in the park today.

Unless the 4-stroke is supercharged or turbocharged, the 2-stroke will produce more power per unit of displacement. That's physics and 40 years won't change a thing.

Any fool can make something complicated - it takes a genius to make it simple.

Reliable sources tell me the new 4 strokes are realiable beyond belief - 1000 hours valvetrain without adjustments. Models for every application from pontoons and houseboats to the Race 300. Pro series for bass and walleye. DTS or mechanical T/S, hydraulic or power steering, digital or analog gauges, variety of colors, gear ratios, and MADE IN THE USA right here in good ole' Fond du Lac.
And rumors beyond 500 hp when the need arrises.
