I had an 82 shadow when it had the 2.4 200 ran it with a 24 chopper
67-70 was the best I saw according to water pressure speedo( long b4 gps)
Try a 25-26 4 blade trophy or bravo style you should see mid 70’s with the right set up as long as the boat is not too heavy
forget lake George save a little gas and stop at sacandaga, better yet hit the romp best bang for the performance boating buckLast edited by berzerko; 05-10-2018 at 07:20 AM.

I'll have to check out Sacandaga, I've never been... where is the romp?
Thanks for the prop tips, I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a used Bravo to start testing, and a GPS. Any thoughts on those Promax props merc racing has? They are about the same price as the Bravo...1983 Shadow 21 - 1996 Merc 2.5

You still think 25-26p will be the ticket with the Promax? I honestly don't mind the high-five for puttering around, plus since my analog speedo doesn't work the passengers think we are going faster than the 50mph we are actually doing due to all the noise I will probably sell the high-five to recoup some of the cost. Any thoughts on labbed vs. pro finish? Thanks for the advice!

Haven't made it there yet because the water around here has been so flooded and full of debris. Went for a solid run yesterday on one of the only stretches of clean water, ran to about 6,800 with a full tank of gas, but could only run WOT for about fifteen-twenty seconds before I got too nervous about all the crap in the water ahead of me. I will report back if conditions improve and I can get a speed run in on clean water.

I actually had it listed for sale in the fall, and had a change of heart and decided not to sell. The guys at Fullers Marine in New Jersey did some great work for me over the off-season and now everything is running strong. I'm going to try my best to get my hands on a test prop, but out here there aren't any boats like these. Noone even knows what a Shadow is haha, so people tend to run either tunnel hulls with totally different set-ups, or the big-money bling-bling guys run inboards. I'll still lurk around and see if any of the Mercury dealerships have any, I know BBlades does a test program too, but they are fairly pricey.
I still have a chopper my dad bought in the late 90's early 00's that my dad thinks is 26p that runs faster than the High-Five, but it is a pain to get on plane with any kind of load and doesn't handle very nicely (sweet rooster tail though). I'm not expecting anyone to give a perfect suggestion, just looking for a good all-around prop that will let me move at a decent pace when I want to, but still pull four people around when the family is in town. As long as I'm not getting smoked by the jetboats with all the speakers hanging off the tow racks I'm happy!
This is the fastest boat I've ever owned, so it will take me some time to learn the skills to really max anything out, but I'm working on it! This forum has been an awesome resource .1983 Shadow 21 - 1996 Merc 2.5

I would go with what tunaboy has to say.... very similar set up to you
I tried a trophy on my challenger, i did not like it although others have told me to only get a new or proven one (mine was not) once you mess with them or you hit something there never the same
other props I have tried and liked....
turbo lightning 3 blade nice all around performance, not the fastest but nice thick blades for a daily prop and not too $
Spinelli dr4 awesome prop but expensive
hill signature eagle sl4 (bravo copy) and eagle 4 (pro et copy)
you can call ron hill , he might cut you a deal especially if you buy more than 1
Jaco's has got the promax for $650

Out of curiosity, is it possible (within reason, meaning fairly easily and inexpensively) to put a 300xs powerhead on a 2.5 offshore mid as a replacement for the 2.5 powerhead? I'm looking at these fully dressed 300xs powerheads from merc thinking it might be a good idea to grab one as a drop on replacement for the day when there are no more 2.5 parts out there...
Also cool to see the new four strokes, fairly light with good power. Still need to see the price, but either way, a dressed 300xs powerhead must be significantly cheaper than a whole new outboard. Especially since the mid-section and lower unit I have are in good shape...1983 Shadow 21 - 1996 Merc 2.5

Looking for info on this Shadow
Hi guys, getting close to pulling the trigger on the purchase of this 1981 Shadow. HIN starts with KRG, can someone tell me if this is a Linder built boat ? Also, does anyone recognize this boat ? Previous owner, work that may have been done to it ? I am trying to find out about anything that I can’t see with my eyes. Thanks in advance.
