What is Mercury offering to replace the 250 pro xs? The bass guys must be freaking out over this.

I am one of the few that is excited to see the new motors come out. If the new 4 stroke v8 300/300 pro xs performs the same as my 250xs's, i may consider repowering.

If Mercury had continued development of their two-stoke outboards we would all be sitting here laughing about these four-stroke turds right now.
A 4L Optimax V8 would make 330hp+ and with some modern (1980's) tech like variable exhaust valves and adjustable intake tract tuning could match or exceed the torque curve and fuel economy of the four-stroke for a lot less money. It could've probably used existing stock 3L pistons, rings, rods, reed blocks, injectors, coils, etc; which would have kept the upfront development cost down besides.
(And the four-stroke still uses oil, just all at once when it's time for average Joe Boater to pay $$$ someone to change it.)

Luckily for me I bought stock in Preparation H, cause all the butthurt in this thread is causing a national shortage of it.

Buyers buy and whiners whine. People with 20-50 year old rotten go fast boats who will never see a thousand boating hours in their life don't determine the market for new outboards and they are totally clueless about WHY 4 strokes are so popular, so I'm sure Merc will have continued YUGE successes with their new 4 stroke lineup. The old stalwarts ALWAYS bitch about new powertrain tech they don't understand, from the flathead to OHC to EFI, then DFI and new gen Electric, every step of the way there's whiners. Outboards making the transition are no different and the technology is moving forward no matter how hard a handful of potato chip performance boaters cry.
So the TL;DR Version? Tough S, deal with it.

I love the power and fuel mileage of my Opti's, and how the sound when they are both running in sync at WOT. But my biggest complaint is the noise sitting idling or trolling when 50 plus miles offshore. Especially when doing an overnight trip.
