Need help ! What kind of race motor is this?

My buddy called me today and said he had a race motor for sale I went down and looked at it and it says World on top of it it's not locked up and hasn't been ran in 25 years and has a spare gear case he's wanting 1500 bucks for the whole package with the props have any of you ever heard of a motor called a world? Do you think it's worth 1500 bucks?

It has some Yamato traits, I haven't seen one quite like that though.

Yamato 102 I think - that was what they raced in Japan in the paramutural betting races. Gearcase is a A-B-C Quicky, probably 1:1 ratio.

Motor says WORLD on the top. ? I can't believe I couldn't figure out what it was either do you guys think the package with the lower unit and the motor is worth 1500? I don't know what I would do with it but hang it on the wall in the garage

If the Quicky is good, it can be worth $500-700. I think they still race the 102 Yamato in some stock class here, like a Super A class or something. $1500 would be top buck I think.

    It's a Yamato.They said World on them.
    I raced them.
I think there's a tag on front of clamp bracket that may tell you mod.

    They made an 80, 102 and 302.

Great motors. Couple interesting tid bits:
They have no water pumps. Cooling water is force fed by prop.
    And, drive shaft is square!

The loose gear case is a Merc 2 banger race case.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

The Yamato 80 is the only one that says World. $1500 is exactly right for those pieces, not a bargain or gift to either the buyer or seller. The 80's were pretty common when Tom Ige imported them.

There are a bunch more models than the 80, 102 and 302. Most common outside those 3 is the 202.

Some of the 80's were extra fast, most were ordinary and a few were dogs. You can bet that there are no fast ones in circulation. Hundreds of mechanics have tried for decades to figure out what made one extra fast or how to make a dog at least into an ordinary runner. No one ever really succeeded.

So at best you've found an ordinary runner, probably a little more likely a regular dog.

One thing that never changes is their reliability. Even the doggy ones start and run like new almost forever

Not a good idea - no positive displacement water pump. Cooling water rises to the powerhead via prop spray onto a hole just above the prop. You have to be moving pretty good to get cooling.
