My only reason for not wanting a 4 stroke was weight which Mercury just solved. The 4 strokes have more torque, more reliable, better fuel economy, and are capable of making crazy power when supercharged or turbocharged. The market for new 2 strokes is very small. The new O/B boats that are selling are pontoons, Center consoles and large outboard cats all with big 4 stroke engines. I just can not see Mercury sticking with the 2 stroke much longer. Look at snowmobile drag racing. The big dogs are running 4 stroke with turbos. I can see boat drag racing going that route as well.

Personally, I love the cowl shape. Things are a changing ya old farts!!! I'm 31, and love the style change. Truly shows "I'm not a 2-smoke!"
Now I need a bigger boat.

Kinda wish they'd make a 4-stroke outboard like the crotch rocket bikes that will spin 16k rpm
just for race applications. I know it wouldn't be easy to get on plane ... dilemmas!

Well we know where they stole the design from.

I think Mucolloch has grounds for a patent infringement case.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Motor is not very good looking , but has room for supercharger that is coming and the new lower eats less horsepower .In testing 225 with twins only 1-2 mph slower than 300 verado. Not bad might need ugly motor at under 500lbs with supercharger.

If they up the horsepower by 50hp, I might have to figure out the location of the yellow 21’ Superboat from the website....

What is the makeup of the valvetrain? Is this the key to the lighter weight. The 4s motors usually have a heavy cam and rockers and such. This series has a diff setup I bet...

The only interest I have in a 4 slug is they can be boosted easily. ( until somebody does DAI, Direct Air Injection in a DFI 2 stroke??)
How is Merc going to explain the replacement of the boosted tower of power with a v6??

One of the keys is the casting of the block, it's really what makes the difference. Out article touches on that detail. Mercury has one of the most advanced high pressure casting machines, it's really incredible. This engine has a DOHC 24 valve configuration.

    Power , Didn't you get the memo ... ?
They can add to the line-up . Drop models without warning non customers such as yourself . And even be just like Honda and do it mid year if they choose .

Here's something you might be interested in .. the new "yardGater" . Look at the fine job it does ... ! Just leave it out in the back 40 and once a week it goes around and mow's , edge's , hedges , trims , vacuums ,, bags and tips the waste mgmt. driver .
