So if the keel gets changed to flat how far forward should it go?

How much benefit is there to go to a flat keel?

So being a modified tunnel hull would removing the small radius on the keel cause any dangerous handling conditions at high speeds? Remember I’ve been a jet boat guy until now.

I don't think changing it over to a flat keel would be dangerous. I ran a flat keel 19' for almost two decades at 90MPH + and it was very stable. If it was me, I would probably call Eliminator and ask them how they set the bottom up on a 21' Daytona for Outboard application. While you are talking to them, you could ask where to get the outboard bracket that works best on your set up. Another resource for you is FB. There are a ton of high performance boating pages there, some primarily west coast pages. There are a lot of 21' Daytona's out there running a single O/B. Look at those set-ups and save yourself some work.

I emailed Randy from Liberator who advised me on a setup made by Hydrodynamics. I’ll give them a call and find out more. I asked Greg Shoemaker about the flat keel idea and he responded back with the 21 never had a flat keel but only a small 5/8” radius that worked good with outboards. He recommended to patch the holes from the jet and run it. Since this will be a family river boat and not a “race” boat then putting it back to stock makes sense. I do plan to remove any hook in the center pod though as it does have a small one now. The sponsons both have a small hook as well and John from Recon advised to leave it alone for now and get it running good on top end, if I want to free it up later he will take out the hook then. Maybe some seat time is a good idea before I try to stretch every last mph out of it.

Exactly, I’ve searched the web, FB and forums and have hundreds of pics of Daytona outboard setup pics saved. Homework first then do it right the first time. At least that’s the plan!
