11-20-2017, 11:51 PM #243Thank you Joe , it's kind of amazing that 2" built into the bracket ( 8" vs 10" ) equates to a 20% increase in static load . Shock loads must go off the chart to snap the front completely off like the one in the picture the Capt. Dave posted ...

Dave , I'll be interested to see if the top cylinder pin bent . Even though it is made out of expensivtanium , it looks like it in the only thing of substance holding the motor on ..

	11-21-2017, 08:37 AM #246Not necessary!...
Give most the materials, welder and seat it will probably not be done correctly!
Keep in mind there are very important tolerances that need to be kept. Not to mention you need a REAL welding machine to weld a piece that big and heavy. Also hard to duplicate someone’s knowledge or talent.

 MeCap, great picture!
Not hard to tell why that area would be a weak link. These 15” swivel sections are such a large and heavy piece of aluminum that the shear weight alone is an issue.
We usually try to watch for hair line fractures regularly.

It certainly doesn't help matters that the 3.2 powerhead weighs 100#s more than the 2.5 powerhead the swivel bracket was designed to carry. I feel bad for the guys breaking them and having it cost them the race.

11-22-2017, 11:59 PM #248Racing has always been about pushing parts to their limits . Breaking them , building them stronger and moving on to find the next weak link in the chain . Nature of the beast .
They say , that you must first finish , to finish first .
Not saying that racers are going to purposely go any easier , but it might be a blessing in disguise knowing that there are still vulnerable parts in the driveline that they need to protect , just as a NASCAR driver need to manage tire wear ...

Can you imagine , it take a 270 pound ingot to start cutting a billet swivel bracket ..
