How do you ship a lower unit

Like the title states, what are some of the ways for shipping complete lower units? Is strapping the LU to a pallet cheaper than boxing?

Pallet is a little more, but easier to ship, and it won't get busted up like UPS does. UPS always claims it's oversize which bumps the price way up.

If you got any boat shops near you, see if any of them have an SEI box with the foam laying around. SEI does a great job boxing up a lower unit.

Make a plywood box with internal bracing to hold it fast . Wrap the case in
heavy plastic film to prevent chafing , screw the box to a pallet . Ship common carrier .

Plywood box, drop from 6' high with the case in it. If the box fails then it's not good enough, build it better.

I ship them regularly strapped to pallet with carpet on bottom, shipping tubes over driveshaft and propshaft. Has not failed me yet, shipped well over a 100 this way.

I shipped my coned V4 LU in a heavy cardboard box that replacement LUs are shipped in with foam core that I modded to except the cone and LWP. Taped it up good and it went to East Coast Powdercoating and back perfectly (FedX). Check your local marinas for a used shipping box.

I believe UPS uses the 12' drop test.
