    Water in lower unit

1995 Merc......Just did gear oil change since it had been 2 years and had maybe a spoon full of chocolate milk at the very first then pure oil came out...could this be due to condensation since boat sits outside all the time and the sun does shine on lower unit in the am and then cools off later in afternoon.....i know a stupid question huh??

Seal kits are way cheaper than gear cases.

Most often, not always, the culprits are the prop shaft seals. They can be changed without disassembly. Remove prop and thrust washer and see if there is fishing line around shaft. Happens a lot.

Make sure you vacuum test it. I found several units that still leaked following installation of a seal kit because the problem was a groove worn in the driveshaft where the seals in the water pump base ride.
