Fastest 20' outboard stoker sst
Anyone know the fastest a 20' stoker sst has run? I remember hearing of a purple 1 running 109 a few years ago.

Back in the late 80`s when I was driving for Mirage in the stock Mod-VP class at Parker and Al was in the modified Mod-VP class. We had tested at an honest 107 with the Yamaha Excel and we drew a great pit/starting position (I think #7) so I got a good jump on everybody. Well somewhere down the river Al went by me at least 10mph faster. I wasn`t worried because he was in a different class but I thought to myself "HOLY CRAP that thing is flying". I hope this helps you in some way.

I put it on the back burner. I do have a 15" mid to put on it. Hopefully this winter. We use the wakeboard boat now that the kids are skiing and boarding a lot. I miss going fast but watching my 6 and 8 yr olds on a single ski makes up for it!

How is your boat running? Any changes?

Running great. Best performance ski boat ever! Never tried to set any speed records. A buddy's 280 felt pretty weak compared to the 300X??

I feel like the 280 was the best stock motor for the boat. It handles far better, but I'm done with premixing and rebuilding.

I am sure 109 is not the fastest 20 Stoker. The purple one you are talking about belonged to Ryan Manyon (spelling?) Mine ran 109 with a 28 and I was out of prop I know it had few more if I had a bigger wheel. I am sure there are others that will run faster. Mr. Stoker would know better.

Da Bull has it pretty close on what we could run at Parker loaded with 70 Gallons of fuel. Several have run over a 100 at the new enduro with weight/height/engine restrictions, the one inch below the bottom is the tough restriction. A couple of sterndrive 20's have been well north of the outboard race boats.

I bought a new Stoker from Al in 1985 - put a 2.4 efi on it - best speed was 89. So I installed a Land and Sea Turbo - lots of turbo lag, but once it spooled up - 112 mph.

i had about a 1980 Baker 20' RST (same bottom as stoker) and same molds that i think stoker got from baker. deck was more rounded than the more angular stoker. it was a mod vp boat with single center seat and huge enduro gas tank. we did not have GPS then so speed numbers may be suspect. i had Al build up a 235 rude similar to his engines. i think that the best speed was right around 100 mph. this was a lite boat, about 500lbs. i think most of the mod vp boats had run at least 100 to be competitive. it seems unlikely that any pleasure version with stock power would hit 100. later, after i converted it to pleasure use, it ran 82 with a merc 225.

Bottom on a Baker is not the same and we never got a mold from Baker, we did build 2 plugs that Baker used to build molds from that we never got paid for.
Molds are in storage.
