Only 5 person capacity on a 17ft Seaswirl bowrider??
Hi guys, looking at 1989 Seaswirl Spyder (17ft bowrider).....for a 17 foot boat it's quite roomy, but nameplate calls out 5 passengers or 715 pounds! I was shocked so little - are these boats that heavy??? There is EASILY room for 7 on this boat. Just trying to figure out how big of a deal this would be when cruising around with 2 other couples (6 people total) on my local lake which is moderately patrolled....thanks for any info!

Coast guard blanket rule.... It's a formula... Width x length etc... then they sink it with weight... and Voila! a moderate limit given for the number plate.

ok, then maybe this boat is out......too bad, it's really a nice boat...it must be crazy heavy to be limited to such light weight capacity though?

If you think about it, 5 people in a 17' boat is actually overloaded. If you want to carry 6, I would suggest a 20' or bigger boat.

Ain't it great to have papa TRUMP back at the helm?

I have a 18.5-19" seaswirl cuddy cabin. Its 2300 lbs from factory (says online) coastguard sticker says 8 persons or 1200 lbs motor gear people. So take motor into consideration at 400 lbs (approx) only 800 lbs left. At least thats what it think it says.
