I really like it w/the Suzuki still on it too.
Cool old motors and neat to see someone put the time/$$ into one.

    And different.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

    Thanks for the compliments guys.

Yep, the Suzuki was bone stock except for the nosecone when I bought it. They were torquey motors, and would run forever, but they didn't rev like a Merc.
All the mods I did over the years gained about 10MPH over stock. Definitely took a lot more work and experimentation, where the same gains could've been had with a few bolt-ons on a Merc motor.

It was fun, and a learning experience, but if I ever have another boat, it's going to run a 2.5, at least a 280 model.

I liked the engineering in those old motors.
Werent those the ones that you could replace one side of the block?

We had a local dealer that was a very strong Suzuki dealer back in the day.
He was also a STV and Laser dealer and seen them on both!

Yep. These motors were built like a lot of 2-stroke bike engines.

It has a pressed crank with one-piece rods, and the case splits vertically, capturing the main bearings between halves.
The back half of the case accepts the cylinder block assemblies, which install over the pistons.

The extra hardware does add some weight, but the one-piece rods eliminate a failure point.

The torque of the Suzuki actually suited the Seebold pretty well, as it was more of a rough-water boat than an STV or Mirage, but undoubtedly it could've been faster with a 2.5.
I'd have no problem running one of these again as a fishing motor, but they really were never intended to compete with the lighter Merc and Evinrude racing motors.

What did you do as i had one with a merc 220 xri that timmy help me set up and it ran low 80's on its best day. I am only asking what you did as we ran a 14 1/2 by 30 merc chopper which Timmy suggested. What prop did you run? These are very rare and very good boats designed by bill seebold. They are a heavier layup with center pod and run as well as a pickle fork can in the swell. Tim seebold said they made them a little heavier and gave up some top end. The center pod makes the boat handel well around the lower speeds and the heavier layup makes them less prone to flip running into the wind. Personally i think high 80's and low 90's is wishfull thinking but running 80 mph all day w/o problems is possible. Also you can run through a wave in the heavy swell so whoever buys this boat needs to realize it is not a rough water rig. Have no hesitation buying this hull and with a merc worked 2.5 260/280 you will run mid to 87 mph all day. Buy this boat with no hesitation as it was the seebold's attempt to offer an 18' little racer to the public and you better believe they know how to build a tunnel hulL Hats off to Mike, Tim and there father who were the real champs and pioneers of the racing tunnel hull set. i have a canadian built 87 with a slightly modified 260 that is still running the stock ecu with 7650 limiter and have ran 98.3. In most any conditions can run 92-94 everyday.running 16inches of setback and hydraulic jackplate with seats moved back about 10inches.Boat still has all hardware be it decorative or functional on the boat.Running a worked Mazco re3 28p.The boat loves the big chop on the water.with a different ecu i’m certain my boat would bust 100.mid 80’s is shootingbthis guy way low in my experience and opinion.unless he’s running a fishing motor on it.220xri is no comparison to a bridgeport or 2.5 racing engine
