Yes powerabout, but was left in the dust when the 3 liter looper was introduced.
I raced the Evinrude V6 CCC 2.4 cross-flow in Paris 6 Hours 1978 and Renato used the new 3 liter looper V6 CCC.
Yes, thats me in the #11 Molinari/Saffa/Evinrude CCC
Paris 6 Hours 1978 was a very “big deal”.

Sure the looper would be a much better race engine, I just wondered how customers would be happy left in the dust and the factory beating them with an engine they couldnt buy/rent or lease?

HeeHee..well that's racing. You could not buy the Merc T-4 3.4 liter Billy Seebold won Bristol with 1979. You could maybe get a very strong 2.5 liter T-3.
Very few Merc T-4 was built for circuit racing 1979/80.
Thats why Renato got p*ssed and rigged the Molinari Monster for the World OZ class championship race in Milan, Italy 1979.

I have just observed that whenever there is a confirmed shot of a looper they have johnson style cowls and not the evinrude xflow ccc which is Stock.
I wonder if the wont fit under a stock omc v6 cowl?
straight line , was asking was the twin rig fast?

The V6 CCC 3 liter looper fuel injection (picture) was a much larger block and the fuel injection needed more space. The cowling was redesigned and the stock lower cowling was replaced with a better one in fiberglass. See picture of the new lower cowl.

As I wrote in my memories above there was a carburetor model also.

This is me racing the #29 Molinari/Saffa/Johnson RS V6 looper 2 liter at the Idroscalo race course 1978. Finished second after Renato but ahead of the Merc boats.
