Thanks for all good input on here. My 20" midsection came in today so all the pieces for rigging are now in house. I still need a hull but based on what I have learned from you guys and the studying I have done on my own, I have landed on the LCB with a fishing deck. The boat looks awesome, can achieve very impressive speeds with a Monty motor, can handle the bay, can hang during river runs, and can be used for fishing in the bay/lakes/flats. I think I have found the ultimate boat for us, in addition to the Scarab which is slowly but surely making progress and will be rigged with trip Suki's.

Thanks again for all input. Once the Scarab is complete, the LCB project will start. Until then the Monty motor will receive a few cosmetically upgrades and be completed.

Hi Kimswang. I have owned a Fastcat (now LCB) for the last 15 years. I can tell you it has been a great boat for me. For its size, the ride is incredible and at speed stable as can be. If you want max speed, Brent and Mike like speed, from this hull she must be light. This hull is very sensitive to weight. I can ride through some nasty stuff with my hull because she is on the heavy side, but if you want speed get one that has been put on a diet.

LCB are the shiz. If I wasn't under pressure for a "I hate the wind blowing in my hair and face and we need a potty" boat I'd sell all my junk and get one. Fell in love with Brent's at Jasper a few years ago.

Here's a (very grainy) picture I found on the internet with Monty's personal STV V8 setup from back in the day. A good friend of mine bought it from Monty right after I bought the yellow/green and Purple Mirage hull that's pictured earlier in this thread from Gordon years ago. My friend got the STV hull with an F1 V8 that Gordon set up for him.
IIRC Gordon told me that the STV didn't handle the V8 as well as the Mirage did, because it had more setback, I think.
I haven't spoken to him in years, but Monty was an encyclopedia of knowledge on setting up V8s on these boats.
I just did a deal on the same STV hull yesterday and will pick it up this week. Just need something to power it now...

I was actually always a diehard OMC man, went through three 3.0 L motors, until I had one built by Gordon back in the late 90s (which as far as I know is still running). I had it first on an 17' Action, but it was too much power, so I bought Monty's Mirage, since he had just switched to the STV hull. I put the Monty 3.0 on the back of the Mirage and I spun that thing up to 8,800 on nitrous too many times to count, and it made great power. It was still ass-heavy though, even with a 16" mid.
So, in the end I switched to a Merc 260 with a 12" F1 midsection, then that grenaded and then I bought a brand new Drag powerhead. After that, I was hooked on Merc, at least for this kind of setup.
Don't want anything to do with their current portly 4-stroke setups though. I think somewhere along the way, with the active assistance of the EPA, the whole concept of an outboard motor went out the window. Just my 2 cents...

A Monty E-Tec could do the trick as well.

Even as a die hard Merc man,I would still own a Monty power in a heartbeat. Much respect to that man

Couldn't agree more. The 3.0L that he built for me was indestructible. The only reason I gave up on it was because it launched so hard out of the hole that the jets in the carb would become uncovered and it would bog and drop onto plane and by the time that it recovered, my usual opponent with his Triad Drag motor setup would be 4-5 lengths ahead. But, boy, once I got it going and sprayed it (with a 90hp Chuck Goodman system) it would trap like 112-114 in the 1/4. I tried every mod I could to eliminate that bog but never got rid of it. With a custom fuel injection system, it would've been a beast. Gordon was a force to be reckoned with back in the day in DSRA with that Mirage hull.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of the STV with the F1 V8 setup on it and post them up.
