Photobucket Fiasco - Please Read!
Some of you may have heard that Photobucket just changed their policy recently, requiring paid membership to host photos. What that has resulted in is, people having years and years of hosted images on sites all over (including this one), will not have their images displayed until they pay the membership, which is $400/year. Thus, for Photobucket-hosted images that members added to their posts here, you will likely see an image in their place, similar to this one:
I don't know what the end result of this will be, but if anybody needs help hosting images here, there are no limits on this site with respect to how many images you can upload.
We are revamping the Scream And Fly site, which will make uploading many images very quick and easy. In the meantime, there is a post showing how to upload images directly into posts, right here. Scream And Fly has an incredibly powerful image-hosting system, and it's absolutely free to all members. I am also going to make a few videos outlining the Asset Manager here, which allows you to upload many photos into posts in one step. I use the Asset Manager every time I make a photo post here, such as this one.
If I can help with anything, please let me know.

I agree. I hate to say this, but this is always a risk with any photo-hosting company. Things almost never stay the same forever, and when images are hosted with another company, I'm sure there are clauses in their user agreement that specify the potentiality of this. I do not know all the details about the Photobucket thing, but I see a lot of those Photobucket warning images all over now. I would be pretty mad if I had thousands of images on that site.
On the flip side, hosting all of those images costs a tremendous amount of money, and they may be in a situation where it's either this, or they shut down. I had a few of those moments with S&F over the years, so I can really understand. I think Photobucket is allowing people to download their images without cost, which they should anyway.

I just buckled to the Photobucket pressure (via e-mail) and bought one year for $59.99. The only reason I did it was to preserve all of the photos I've posted on this site as well as a few others. I guess next year I'll review the cost and see if I think it's still worth it. Should hosting photos be free? Probably not. Should it cost as much as they're asking? We'll see, but I think not.

Greg. When I post in the for sale section and want to attach a photo, I get an option from computer or URL. I simply select computer, select my pic, press attach, and done - pic is attached. When I am in your private message forum and want to attach a pic, I only get the option URL. so the only way i know to find URL for a stored pic is to email pic to myself then use that URL to attach. why not both options in private messages. computer and URL.

how many how-to, build, etc threads all just went to crap
I used to host my photos on a private server that was also a forum, knew the owner he was a friend of mine would stay at my house
he sold the forum, my site was still up, then it got sold again to IB, it vanished overnight, like completely
its not so much of a data storage as I do still have all those pictures ( somewhere) but all the links that went dead
one day you might sell S&F and the new owner might change the policy and those links will go dead tooRaybo Marine http://www.raybomarine.com/
