I've done them like this, and I've also trimmed the flanges off like the skip mod and cut big oval holes. Either way, the relieved straight leg mids sound more "Merc-y" than the offshore dumps (which have more of a howl) IMO. They also direct the sound down instead of rearward, which makes them a lot less ignorant when you're idling around the dock and boat ramp.

My O/S mid is submerged when idling. But cuts loose when you come up on plane.

Should i drill or not, any benefit or Loss? 225 promax.

The holes on my old one are were I have circled in white. What will drilling some holes there do? anything? Attachment 378652

Hi What part number is that rubber boot? It is different than the right angle boots on the early 90s 2.0 and 2.5 fishing motors which connect into the lower cowl skirt.

Exhaust boot people should have ones laying around some old mids lots if you have trouble finding a new one. I needed the right angle off my old one to fit the skirt I have. My skirt is Alien style.

Is there enough material thickness where the 10 holes are drilled to tap them say 1/2-20 and then install some bolts for when you want it more quiet?

I wondered the same thing. Tap for 1/2" from above. Then run internal hex pipe plugs if needed from below later
