haha that sounds wild!!! Always love the whine of the SC. Thanks! I dont know why people get all out of sorts about stuff. Very cool motor though gota love what there doing. The Yamaha vMax motor cycle engine has been a super charged motor since the Mid 80,s I think? I had a buddy with one with lots of miles on it. So yamaha knows how to make them last thats for sure. Love Yamaha motors. the ford SHO with the Yamaha motor was one of my favorites also SVT back in the day. I had a YZ125 when i was younger and a Seca 750 in 83 and also a 800 wave runner all never had one single problem.

The V Max's were not blown.
They did build some turbo 750cc bikes but were heavier and slower than their 1000cc big brothers.

Yamaha clearly had their **** together on bikes amongst other things.
    RZ's, TZ's, FZ's, YZ's etc.

On turbo car motors, Porsche was making 700ish HP's w/a single turbo 3.0 liter flat six in the mid eighties in IMSA road racing trim and 800+ when they went to twin turbos.

The only real question on the SHO O/B's is, does Dave Bush have one on his dyno yet

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

The failure rate of these motors will be sky high. You gotta know people will be putting bigger pulleys and tunes on them and blowing them up like popcorn. Since the blocks are a one time use piece, yamaha will be going 24/7 building them. Win/win for yammi....

My guide buddies got them and crowed about how great they were going to be a few yrs ago. I have noticed they all have gotten rid of them and gone either to the reg yam 4 strokes or to the v-maxes. A few even went to mercs after breaking down and losing charters. All the while the same old 2005 225 optimax was churning away on my boat. 2500 hrs on this motor. What a workhorse....

A Procharger would be a better way to go on the SHO but I don't see it holding together.Ifyou have to do rods, heads, cam pistons I'd just by a CRT!!

I keep reading they replace the flywheel/balancer every other service otherwise the cranks break?

Flywheels balancers going out of balance, that doesn't sound like typical Yami quality.

Flywheels were outsourced. Yamaha will replace them at the required interval for the life of the engine regardless of hours or owners.

Bud of mine has two of the v-8's on his contender. One went up in smoke while we were looking at it thru a window. Key off, batt sw on. Never found out what happened. They replaced the complete power head and the power trim motor under warranty with no reason as to why it caught on fire. Only response was, we don't know....Verrry strange...No problems since. Been several yrs.
